The conflict escalation after Friedrich Glasl makes a model available, in order conflicts better analyzes and during its process better to react to be able. The model has nine stages, which divide into three levels with in each case three gradations.
In the first level both conflict parties can still win (Win Win). In the second level a party loses, while the other one wins (Win lots) and in the third level both parties (lot lots) lose.
Interestingly enough one can analyze the most different conflicts thereby: Rose wars, conflicts between colleagues or pupils and also conflicts between states.
Stage 1: Tension
Conflicts begin e.g. occasional Aufeinanderprallen of opinions with tensions. It is everyday and not as beginning of a conflict is noticed. If from it a conflict develops nevertheless, the opinions become more fundamental. The conflict could have deeper causes.
Stage 2: Debate
The conflict partners strategies consider themselves off here, in order to convince the other one from its arguments to. Diversities of opinion lead to a controversy. One wants to pressurize the others.
Stage 3: Acts instead of words
The conflict partners increase the pressure to the other one, in order to become generally accepted or its opinion. Discussions are e.g. broken off. It takes place no more communication and the conflict is faster intensified.
Stage 4: Coalitions
The conflict is intensified by the fact that one looks for sympathizers for its thing. Since one believes oneself in the right, one can denunzieren the opponent. It concerns no longer the thing, but around it, to win the conflict so that the opponent loses.
Stage 5: Face loss
The opponent is to be destroyed in his identity by all possible assumptions or something similar. Here the confidence loss is complete. Face loss means in this sense loss of the moral reliability.
Stage 6: Threatening strategies
With threats the conflict parties try to control the situation absolutely. It is to illustrate own power. One threatens e.g. with a demand (10 millions euro), those by a sanction ("otherwise I blow up it main building into air! ") one intensifies and one supports by the sanction potential (explosive show). Here the proportions decide on the reliability of the threat.
Stage 7: Limited destruction
Here is the opponent with all cheat to be sensitively harmed. The opponent is not noticed no more than humans. Starting from here a limited own damage already as profit outstandingly, should that of the opponent be larger.
Stage 8: Splintering
The opponent is to be destroyed with destruction actions.
Stage 9: Together into the abyss
One calculates the own destruction off here also, in order to defeat the opponent.
The model describes, how two conflict parties behave. Solutions to the Deeskalation are not offered in this model. In particular if with conflicts, with which for both conflict parties leaving does not appear possible to the situation (e.g. aggressive act on territory of a State of, paternal handling a common child after a separation, withdrawal from citizen rights by a State of, mass redundancies for the improvement of the Shareholder VALUE) or a conscious conflict escalation selects a party as a strategic moment.
Conception of the world-free, worth-free recognizing and eliminating from driving forces to the conflict escalation should belong to the Standardreportoire of high-level personnel, advisors and social work.
