From this developed the Atlas booster rocket, which started for the first time on 18 December 1958. With such a further developed rocket John Glenn became 1962 the first American spaceman, who orbited the earth. Together with the Centaur stage likewise developed by Convair the Atlas rocket became for approximately 30 years the most important means of the Americans, in order to bring satellites into the orbit.

Thus one built sections for the space shuttle, was involved in the Tomahawk and supplied starting from 1985 parts for the McDonnell Douglas MD-11. 1994 became Convair thereupon at McDonnell Douglas sells. 1996 were liquidated the company.
