The German consumer information law planned since 2002, originally submitted by the federal minister Renate (alliance 90/Die the Green) of the Federal Ministry for nutrition, agriculture and consumer protection, is to strengthen the consumer rights and improve crucially.

All consumers are to receive requirement on information about products, which are present the authorities. The authorities for their part are to have the right to inform about certain circumstances actively. It should be in the future possible to inquire from the authorities to which information about certain products is present, for example on their condition or manufacture conditions whether it all genes contained or which other test results are present over it. Authorities again are to be put into the position to be able to pass references on over products with which for example a substantial excess was determined by limit values or with those it is scientifically disputed, starting from which concentration a certain risk exist. Also with an offence against consumer-protecting regulations should be permitted the authorities, the names of the companies admits to give, what in Germany is so far not possible.

Despite mehrer approaches the law failed however several times because of the resistance CDU-led Upper House of Parliament.

In the coalition contract the large coalition is the intention of passing such a law contained. Accordingly the responsible Federal Ministry for nutrition, agriculture and consumer protection, led from refuge Seehofer, again activated now the procedure.
