Content management (cm) is the summary of all activities, processes and aids, which support the life cycle of digital information in the form of documents and documents. Will often called the digital information content (contents), it can as files be present, those process individually or also as coherent file systems, like e.g. Web page.

The life cycle of such documents and documents goes through typically six fundamental phases: (1) Production, (2) revision, (3) publication, (4) translation, (5) file and archiving, (6) elimination.

Content management is characterized by cooperative processes and activities. Often are the following fundamental roles:

  • Author - responsible for the production and revision of the CONTENTS
  • Publisher - responsible for the fine work on the document and for the way of the publication
  • Publisher - responsible for the physical publication of the digital CONTENTS
  • Administrator - responsible for the administration of different expenditures of the CONTENTS as well as for its storage, so that it can be found and processed.

A critical factor with the content management is the administration of the different versions, sees in addition also version control. The automated processes in the context content of a management are supported by content management of system (CMS), which covers the following:

  • Possibility of assigning different roles and responsibilities at different users and content categories/types
  • Identification of the most important users and their roles
  • Definition of the processing processes as Workflow
    • Possibility of sending messages (e.g. by E-Mail) at responsible person as soon as in the content of certain documents somewhat changes
  • Nachhalten and administration of different versions of a document
  • Publish the CONTENTS in a file (e.g. a data base)
