The company Convergent Technologies was created by a small troop of former Intel coworkers in the year 1979 and made themselves in the 80's a name as a manufacturer of computer systems in the Client server surrounding field.

The first product was the IWS system (Integrated workstation), which on Intel was based 8086 processor. As operating system an self-development was implemented named CTOS. Later with the "“MiniFrame"” - and/or "“MightyFrame"” - systems to processors of the company Motorola (68010, 68020 and 68040) was changed over, whereby a Unix similar operating system was used named CTIX.

Convergent developed also the first OEM Unixproduct for AT&T on Motorola 68010, and integrated some features in Intel AT&T Unix (SVR3.2):

  • Stream based I/Os operation
  • Support for internationalization (multilingualness)

Convergent Techologies was bought up 1988 by Unisys and integrated as "“Business division"” into the enterprise.
