Cw2 () designates an officer candidate rank, which goes through the rank of a main sergeant in the German Federal Armed Forces. In the armed service German navy is called this rank cw2 to sea. The transport to the cw2 takes place as a rule after 30 months service during attitude with the lowest rank (Kanonier, flier, sailor etc.). Officer candidates of the military specialty service (Offz MilFD) are usually appointed with the assumption into the career Offz MilFD the cw2, if they carried the rank before main sergeant or at least one year the rank technical sergeants. Belonging one of the reserve do not go through this rank usually, but after existed officer training from the wo1 to the second lieutenant are immediately carried.

Soldiers in this rank can give crews and NCOs without Portepee of instructions within the borders set by the superior regulation (VorgV).

They are paid with the paying stage A8 mA (with office extra pay).
