Cypherpunks (in an educated manner from Cipher and Punk) designates a group of technically experienced humans, who support the establishment of the data security in the EDP. This goal is to be realized by coding of data and/or the communication channels. Communication within the group finds, if not publicly in Dikussionsforen of the Usenet, usually in mailing lists instead of.

Name

the term of the Cypherpunks was however originally coined/shaped by Jew Milhon. Milhon wanted to describe thereby Cyberpunk, which cryptography (theory of the coding) to use.

Goals

The Cypherpunks is close politically to the Libertarismus and demands the strict revealing of public knowledge (knowledge about the society, politics, economics, science) and a hiding of private knowledge (knowledge about an individual, personal knowledge). Hence it follows that each form hidden by private knowledge of the public, which should be accessible public knowledge however for everyone. This ideal is endorsed by data-security commissioners very much, leads however frequently into the clash of interest with state and economics.

Tools

Cypherpunks create and use during the conversion of their goals different tools. Those are for example Web Anonymisierer, coding programs and Remailer. Thus a certain measure of anonymity is to be achieved.
