DATA general (DG) was an American enterprise of the computer industry.
DATA general 1968 were created by engineers, who had left the Digital Equipment corporation before due to discrepancies.
The first computers carried the name new facts and were 16-Bit-Maschinen. Due to their high stability they were to be found long years in military use.
Later DG developed the computer series of Eclipse, from which there was 32-Bit-Varianten starting from 1980 also.
1989 brought the AViiON computers on the market, which were equipped at first with Motorola 88000-Prozessoren and ran on those DGs own Unix derivative DG/UX to DG. By the achievement to increase some technically interesting concepts were used such as SMP and NUMA.
1992 were put with HADA ("High Availablity disk array") the foundation-stone for the CLARiiON series by STORAGE systems, which were brought 1994 on the market.
Today the enterprise does not exist any longer independently, it to 1999 by EMC was bought up. Principal reason for the purchase were the STORAGE products of the CLARiiON series. The other products were stopped.
