Dedication one calls a sovereignty act (typically a act of administration, a statute or a law), by which a thing becomes a public thing.

With their a public purpose (Gemeingebrauch) is specified at the same time.

The dedication and thus the purpose can also later be changed; one calls the abolition as Entwidmung, in the road and right of way collection.
