The Degussa AG is a company with seat in Duesseldorf. It is the third biggest German chemistry enterprise and at the same time the world largest special chemistry enterprise. The word Degussa was originally an acronym (and "“cable address"”) for "“German gold and Silber-Scheide-Anstalt"”.

Predecessor companies were the Degussa AG and SKW comfort mountain AG.

Firm history

The Degussa was created on 18 January 1873 as Germans gold and Silber-Scheideanstalt before times Roessler AG in Frankfurt/Main. It came out from the 30 years before Frankfurt Scheideanstalt taken in enterprise, which by the former Frankfurt one Friedrich Roessler (1813 - 1883) first leased and as private enterprise operated was. After the Annexion the free realm city Frankfurt by Prussia 1866 was acquired and continued the Scheiderei by its sons Heinrich Roessler (1845 - 1924) and Hector Roessler.

Direct cause for the establishment of the new corporation was the German realm Reich 1871 with the introduction of the national currency Mark, by which the individual currencies of the German countries (e.g. the South German gulden) were obsolet. Large quantities of coins were drawn to that accordingly from traffic; for the recuperation of the precious metal contained in it sheath capacity in industrial yardstick should be created. The field of activity was expanded soon since further precious metal products (gloss gold for the ceramic(s) industry) and chemicals.

Only 1980 were renamed the enterprise officially in "„Degussa AG "“.

Degussa of 35,000 coworkers employed and gained 1990 an annual turnover of 13,925 billion DM.

1999 were fused the "“old"” Degussa into the VEBA daughter AG (Marl) to the Degussa AG; thus the energy company became VEBA the principal shareholder.

After the combination from VEBA and VIAG to the E.ON AG the Degussa and the VIAG daughter SKW comfort mountain were folded up in the year 2001 to the "“new"” Degussa AG. The company seat was shifted at the same time after Duesseldorf.

2000 was separated the precious metal activities of the Degussa into their own society, those meanwhile as Umicore AG & CO. Kg to the Belgian Umicore company belongs. Thus the Degussa separated from its former core business, which gave it also the name.

Since Degussa belongs 1 to June 2004 by the majority to RISES UP (97.5%), after the E.ON company of this had taken over the majority of the Ruhr gas portions. According to agreement of the companies in December 2005 plans RISE UP now to acquire until spring 2006 also the remaining of the E.ON and/or in strewing possession portions present held of the Degussa and make the special chemistry enterprise the support leg for the planned rising up stock exchange course. The general meeting to 29. May 2006 provided for it the switches and agreed to the Squeeze Out. For financing the lucrative building chemistry section of the Degussa was sold to the BASF). Participation in cyclone B production

Degussa was formally seen only indirectly involved in production by cyclone B. The patent for the high-poisonous substance was requested for the "“German society for ltd."” ("“Degesch"”). Degesch belonged to 42.5% Degussa. Starting from 1924 cyclone B was manufactured as pesticide for Degesch with "“the-sourly the works for sugars and chemical industry"” and supplied among other things over the Degesch at Tesch & Stabenow.
