Delivery calls serve in particular automobile suppliers for it changes of demand (order quantity, order lead date) to the suppliers to transfer. Delivery calls can have replacing or supplementing function. That means the fact that with a replacing function, which organizations of the last call overwritten and so that becomes invalid, while the supplementing function only supplements the old organizations and cumulates. Usually the replacing function is selected, since it is more easily in the EDP manageable.

In the delivery calls however still additional information can be sent. Thus the last taken in supply is indicated, so that the progress number with the goods, which still on the way are be co-ordinated can. In addition periods can be communicated, for which be before-produced or raw material can be purchased.

In many cases additionally to the delivery call still fine calls are sent, which concern only the next supplies, but and usually are binding not to be no more changed. The delivery call gets thereby only more a preview function around more long-term planning to accomplish to be able.

Dispatch of the delivery calls

The delivery calls are sent regularly to the supplier. This can happen in the form of fax. Increased however EDI is used in order to ensure a constant automated data transfer of the customer system into the supplier system without necessity for a manual data input.

The federation of the automobile industry published VDA standards for EDI for example for delivery calls:

  • VDA 4905: Delivery calls
  • VDA 4915: Fine calls
  • VDA 4916: Production-synchronous calls/JIT/JIS

In addition, other organizations developed, as for example appropriate message types Odette the DELINS for delivery calls and DELJIT for fine calls or Produltionssynchrone of calls. Even in newer standards, like with EDIFACT one finds the message type DELFOR.
