The company Dell (also Dell Inc. and in former times Dell computer corporation mentioned) was created 1984 by Michael Dell and has its head office in Round skirt, Texas. The shares of the enterprise are acted to the NASDAQ.

Dell is world-wide with 17,2% market share the largest manufacturer of personnel computers. (IDC January 2006; HP 15.7%, Lenovo 7.2%, Acer 5.4%, Fujitsu/Fujitsu Siemens 4.1%) in Germany is the market share about 8%. (February 2006; Fujitsu Siemens 17.8%, Acer 8.9%, Hewlett-Packard 8.7%)

Dell obtained in the past 4 business quarter a conversion of 41.4 billion US Dollar, a profit of 2.6 billion US Dollar and employs over 52.000 coworkers world-wide.

The product range covers among other things PCs, Notebooks, server, Handheld, Drucker and since short also entertainment electronics such as MP3-Player and television.

Dell sells its products directly to the customers. These have the possibility, in writing, of ordering by telephone or by Internet. The products are only assembled after the customer gave his order up to buy because Dell - there are products in no business world-wide. Dell predominantly uses the components of third manufacturers and develops little own hardware. Dell delivers its computers and Notebooks up-to-date with the operating system Microsoft Windows XP. Servers are delivered for firm customers against it also with Microsoft Windows server 2003 or Linux (talk has or SuSE Linux) before-installed.

Company headquarters Dell GmbH in Germany is since 1 August 2005 Frankfurt/Main. Boss of the German Dell addresses is Alain D. Bandle. European boss with seat in London is Paul Bell (conditions 2005). For the European market Dell in the Irish Limerick produces.

On 1 September 2005 Dell has a service and a selling center a client public for the support of medium-size customers and in resounds opened. For the end of the yearly 2005 there about 300 coworkers worked. In the coming three to five years Dell plans to extend the staff on altogether approximately 700 to 1,000 coworkers. At present nearby the main station a new office building is established, which is to be referred in the late summer.

History

  • 1983: Michael Dell begins with the sales of computer components.

  • 1990: The products of Dell are sold over dealers.
  • 1991: The first own Notebook is taken up to the offer. Opening of the factory for the European market in Ireland.
  • 1993: The products of Dell are not sold no more over dealers. For the first time in firm history the conversion amounts to more than 1 billion US Dollar.
  • 1996: The products of Dell can be ordered now also by Internet.
  • 1999: Assumption of ConvergeNet (STORAGE)
  • 2000: The daily turnovers over Internet reach 5 million US Dollar.
  • 2001: The enterprise diminishes 5,700 places.
  • 2002: With the line Axim enters Dell into the PDA market.
  • 2003: The annual turnover amounts to 40 billion US Dollar. The enterprise begins with the sales of printers under own name and entertainment electronics.
  • 2004: The enterprise value amounts to approximately 100 billion US Dollar.
  • 2005: Removal of the enterprise in Main air haven center in Frankfurt/Main, opening second German location in resounds, to Saxonia-Anhalt. In addition paging from some ranges to Bratislava. In a Dell Businesscenter with up to 750 coworkers resounds until 2010 primarily for business customers is furnished.

On the location of a second PC factory in Europe still one decides.

  • 2006: Dell takes over the computer manufacturer Alienware. Alienware continues working however as its own subsidiary of Dell.
