In the course of the discussion around models and theses such as Gatekeeping, message value theory, PR in the journalism etc. of the communication science the question arises whether journalists select messages from the outside actually freely of each valuation and Determination.

In the abundance of information investigations of Nissen/Menningen show 1975 that journalists undertake their publizisitsche dressing often not autonomously and impartially (see news bias), but by are determined. Which concerns the journalistic achievement, Nissen and Menningen placed even an extremely small "“transformation achievement"” of the journalists firmly (the change of the press material is meant by reformulating and commentating). Intereffikationsmodell

On the basis of the acceptance that PR and journalists are one on the other dependent, it formulates Bentele 1997 the Intereffikationsthese: Journalism and Public relation are two out-differentiated subsystems of public communication those each other mutually affect. The central thesis: Both in the journalism as well as in the public work the respective communication achievements are only possible, "“because the other side exist and more or less readily along-plays"”. [1] PR-achievement made possible thus journalism and only journalism makes PR possible.
