Development economics designates that part of the political economy, which with the developing countries is occupied. It divided into the macro-economic and the micro-economic view. While the macro-economic view concerns itself with the economic growth in the long period, the micro-economic view treats incentive problems on the level of individual households and enterprises.

Development economics concerns itself also with institutional questions like according to the functions the World Bank and the IWF (International Monetary Fund).
