The diamond of bicycle works AG exists under different names since 1885 and produced during its history mainly bicycles, in addition, plates, feathers/springs and light motor cycles.
The first diamond bicycle was produced 1895. At that time still under the company of "brothers Nevoigt Reichenbrand/Chemnitz" in Chemnitz. At the beginning this was only a supplementary income of the enterprise. The enterprise grew very strongly and became 1907 the corporation of "brothers Nevoigt AG Reichenbrand/Chemnitz". 1912 were already bicycle production a so important component of the enterprise that the enterprise umfirmierte and was called now "diamond of works of brothers Nevoigt AG". 1920 gave it again a change of the firm's name, now to the "elite to diamond AG", after one had united with the autoproducer elite AG. The mark was in the meantime in such a way likes that in Chemnitz of the "Chemnitzer wheel running club diamond" was based. Later also associations in other cities developed. 1928 were bought the enterprise by OPELs, but 1930 after a comparison the enterprise already received its independence back and was called now "elite diamond AG Siegmar/Saxonia". The probably most important invention of the enterprise was made 1931 with the double roller chain, which is used today still by all standard bicycles. The inventor spirit continued to work, and so 1934 the "health steering wheel" was patented.
After that 2. World war was put under state control the enterprise, and to 2. May 1952 was created officially the "VEB bicycle works elite diamond". In the GDR all wheel running drivers diamond bicycles drove. Thus the road world championships became 1959 (of Schur) and 1960 (of Bernhard Eckstein) of GDR-wheel-racing-learn on diamond won. Also the innovations remained into the 1950er year a component of diamond. Thus first light alloy components were blocked and designed for course racing the first light alloy bicycle.
With the end of the GDR also the VEB was successfully denationalized. On 1 January 1992 the "DIAMOND bicycle works AG" was created under participation of the Swiss Villiger group. This group took over the enterprise 1997 completely. Today Villinger and diamond belong to the American company Trek, to which also the bicycle marks Gary Fisher and Klein belong. The enterprise is today according to own data the oldest German bicycle factory in Germany.
