The brewery Diebels was created 1878 by Josef Diebels in Issum at the Niederrhein. To beginning of the 1970er years in the rather local brewery nearly each beer usual in Germany was brewed. Then a reversal was introduced and only old beer was brewed. The ascent succeeded at the largest German old beer brewery also over 50% market share in Germany.

In the summer 2001 the up to then private brewery was bought up by the Belgian InBev group, to 1 April 2002 took place the formal assumption via of Bremen the brewery Beck & CO.

On 1 July 2003 the brewery Diebels delivered the selling activities to the Interbrew Germany of selling GmbH & CO kg, in which the selling activities of nearly all breweries of the InBev group in Germany were united.

After nearly 30 years of complete specialization on old beer the assortment of the brewery Diebels, like on 8 October 2004, was announced extended on 13 February 2005 finally again officially by a beer of pilsner kind of brewing. Critics criticized, this was betrayal of the own mark.
