Dietrich George von Kieser (* 24 August 1779 in Harburg/Elbe; " 11 October 1862 Jena) was a German physician and psychiatrist.
Kieser was the son of the minister Christoph Ludwi Kieser and its wife Sophie Warmers. After the attendance High School in its hometown began to study Kieser 1801 in Goettingen medicine. Already three years later it terminated this study successfully with a graduation.
Subsequently, it established in Winsen a.d. Luhe and practiced themselves there as a physician. But 1806 it already accepted an offer from Northeim and became there city and Landphysikus. 1812 one appointed it as a.o. Professor to the University of Jena and as such worked he starting from 1813 also as a well physician in straight newly opened therapeutic bath the Berka/Ilm. At the emergence of this health resort Kieser beside Johann Wolfgang von Goethe was considerably involved.
The France campaign Kieser saw 1814/15 as a Freiwilligen. In the process of this campaign one carried it finally to the Prussian Colonel medical officer and as such led he the large military military hospitals in After end of war he taught the University of Jena and 1824 was promoted he to the "o. Professor of the medicine". 1816 accepted it the Leopoldina (German academy for natural scientists) as a tidy member and carried Kieser already two years later to its Adjunkt. Together with his colleague Carl August von Eschenmayer it published "archives for the thierischen magnetism" starting from 1817.
1821 married Kieser in resound to Amalie, a daughter of his colleague, Professor Johann Christian Reil. Kieser was also politically active. In the years 1831 to 1844 it was member of the Saxonian weimarischen federal state parliament and 1844 to 1848 also its vice-president. When as also as a scientist it used politicians vehement for treatments psychologically patients, in the rehablitation of the isolation always preferred itself. Here it put also the foundation-stone to introduce the psychiatry as academic subject
Kiesers possibilities at the university were very limited and restrained. Therefore it created 1831 privately a surgical ophthalmiatrische hospital and led these until 1847. Starting from this year it managed the mad welfare and institute for care in Jena as a director. It held this office until 1858. Besides Kieser led private the Sophronisterium, a hospital for spirit patient in Jena - likewise. Starting from 1848 it was promoted in the Leopoldina to the "Director Ephemeridium", i.e. it functioned as a publisher of this scientific magazine. At its 75. Birthday honoured it its university with the award the honour title Dr. phil. h.c.
1858 selected it the Leopoldina as a successor of Christian Gottfried Daniel Nees from Esenbeck to its new president. Kieser took over a heavy office from its predecessor. As society name he selected Scheuchzer I. and led themselves the society to to its end of life.
At the age of 83 years Dietrich George von Kieser died on 11 October 1862 in Jena.
Kiesers early scientific work was based mainly on empirischn results and in its Hauptwerk (elements of the Psychiatrik) represents it also the thesis of the somatic condition of all psychological disturbances. In the penetration of empirical observation and speculative interpretation Kieser in a row with Johann Friedrich flower brook, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Karl Himly, Lorenz Oken and Carl Eberhard Schelling stands.
