Diogenes of Apollonia (Greek pt, from Phrygien or Crete, approx. 499 - approx. 428 v. Chr.) was a Greek nature philosopher.
Under the influence of Anaximenes Diogenes taught that raw material of the world was air. It penetrates everything and produces as soul life, movement and thinking. Thus air, similarly as according to the theory of the Anaxagoras of the Nus, forms the arranging thing, all controlling, ungewordene, unlimited, reasonable nature. All things result from air from dilution and compression; from the mud again the organisms follow. Diogenes accepted an infinite set of worlds.
Diogenes enjoyed also as a physician high reputation. Possibly he was pursued as Gottesleugner.
