Diploma political economist and/or diploma Volkswirtin (Dipl. - Volksw.) college graduates of universities and universities on an equal footing or specialized college graduates of the professional schools are called, which an economical field, as subsection of the economic science, to have locked and their respective study and test order the academic degree of a diploma political economist and/or a diploma Volkswirtin plan. The very rarely occurring specialized college graduates must lead this academic degree with the additive (FH) for professional school.

Perhaps diploma political economists form the group of the economists together with the Diplom-Kaufleuten and academic operation managers, the economists as well as different economiceconomics oriented university graduates (e.g. restaurant economics, - computer scientists, - geographer, - engineers, - lawyer, statistician).

Because of universities - of those the largest part of the political economists originates - the study emphasis is in the scientific range. At professional schools these scientific realizations particularly in line with standard usage are obtained and used in addition, developed further.

Condition for entrance

A national economy study at a university or a professional school presupposes the general university-level graduation (Abitur), the specializedbound university-level graduation or a comparable education conclusion.

Structure of the study

The average period of study amounts to eight to ten terms. The study is divided into reason and main study. The basic study lasts three to four terms, the main study further four to six terms. According to Federal Statistical Office the actual study duration at universities within the range economic science amounted to on the average 11.0 specialized terms in the test year 2002.

Basic study

The basic study consists of different, often study-accompanying subject examinations and is identical at many universities to the basic study of the Diplom-Kaufleute as well as the diploma commercial teacher.

Main study

The main study consists the conclusion note of different, often study-accompanying subject examinations and auxiliary subjects as well as the thesis (diploma), which weight with points of credit (ECTS), devoted.

• Compulsory subject economic theory
• Compulsory subject economic policy
• Compulsory subject financial science
• First obligation to vote subject (e.g.: Restaurant economics, a general one or special management economics)
• Second obligation to vote subject (e.g.: Economical informatics, statistics, –konometrie or further special management economics)
• Auxiliary fan
• Thesis (diploma)

Quite also different compulsory subjects can seem, require to more or no auxiliary fan and offer still further possible obligation to vote fan.

Conclusion

The basic study ends with the Vordiplom. The main study ends with the academic degree of diploma Volkswirtin and/or diploma political economist, which represents a first occupation-qualifying university conclusion of a single-step course of studies.

A good diploma is a condition for a graduation in an economiceconomics subsection (e.g. BWL, VWL, statistics, economical informatics, industrial engineer nature, restaurant economics). In exceptional cases also a very good FH-diploma is sufficient.

Activity and vocational fields

Diploma political economists take leading, planning, analyzing and advisory tasks

• small, medium sized and large enterprises of different industry affiliation,
• in public administrations,
• in research and teachings,
• with federations, trade unions, chambers (IHK, HwK),
• in addition freelance activities truely,
• and they can become tax counsels and chartered accoutants.
