A document cord was used traditionally from the administration of Baden to attaching the documents (document attaching of Baden). Also today it is used in the part of Baden of Baden-Wuerttemberg still by the law. In the region against it conventional binders are used.

Document cords consist of uncolored cotton yarn and are gewachst at the ends, in order to facilitate a contriving. They are used then with a special document knot to summarize the procedures.

The sides are punched at the left top margin with a special, narrow punch and together-attached in such a way then with the cord that at any time further document sheets can be added. The advantage of the document connection of Baden contrary to files is in the fact that in archives only the place is used, which the document sheets take.

For extracts from the land register partially special colored document cords with paper seals are used.
