One called Dorslandtrekker since 1874 from Transvaal/South Africa fleeing approx. 50 burischen Farmerfamilien.

History

After the Englishmen in outgoing 18. Century the rule over the cape province had taken over, came it ever more to tensions between the burischen Kolonisatoren and the Englishmen, in their consequence the Buren at the beginning 19. Century generally speaking Treck eastward and into the interior of South Africa evaded, in order to create their conceptions appropriate, very strongly religiously determined community there. Thus the two independent Burenrepubliken Oranje Freestate and Transvaal developed.

In addition, here the Englishmen advanced, particularly since the first gold finds in Transvaal promised fast economic successes. Many Buren were afraid surely not to injustice again for their independence and went to 20. May 1874 under guidance of the Farmers Gert Albert in a first wave again on journey. Further Trecks followed under you Plessis, January Greyling, Gert Mair and van Rensburg. The miss-rich and adventurous Treck led the Buren first into the Betschuanaland (the today's Botswana) by the dry Kalahari to confound the "“thirst country"” - therefore it the afrikaanse name "“Dorsland Trekker"”, to to the east border of southwest Africa with Rietfontein (east of Gobabis - not with "“Riedfontein"” east of Keetmanshoop). Here the Dorslandtrekker discovered however Herero, Mbanderu, San and Nama equally, since they stressed all the area rule over this region; Settlement contracts with one of the trunks had inevitably to tensions with all other trunks to lead. Besides the newcomers did not have good reputation with the native trunks, there some of their master members experiences with Buren of the cape had already made and these as herrisch, stubbornly and complacently had become acquainted with. Thus different one did not remain for the Dorslandtrekkern to pull than in the east of the country of far northward for the area of the Etosha pan. New base became 1878 again Rietfontein - this time the name of a source south the salt pan. Here the Dorslandtrekker lived particularly on the hunt - and managed it to shoot within shortest time the entire elephant existence and to reduce also the other game existence drastically. The Buren had robbed itself thereby of its base of life and had to further-pull - to collide over not with the Ovambo - in the Kaokoveld. This area however had been awarded to the Englishmen by contract between Palgrave and Maharero of 1876 as "“government reserve"”, so that the English supremacy threatened the Buren again. Thus the Dorslandtrekker at the end of pulled 1880 over the Kunene to Angola, where they were quite welcome there that as colonial power dominant Portuguese, in order to form in the south of the country a stronger European operational readiness level.

However the Buren could not create its own community also here and in such a way strove some of them in coordination with the Ovambo around a settlement in the fruitful "“corn triangle"” of the later places Tsumeb - Grootfontein - Otavi. Here they created 1884 the burische Republic of Upingtonia and removal Grootfontein to their capital.

This "“establishment of state"” however could not have long existence, after 1884 also the Germans in southwest Africa foot to seize began and in the Republic of Upingtonia not only good farm country, but also - into the Otavibergen - rich ore occurrences found (the latters were of course for a long time before well-known with the Ovambo and Damara, but the first European travelers and mission acres had only of it belonged). Thus Upingtonia was again abolished 1887 and the settlement area of the Buren into the German colony was integrated.

The relationship between Buren and the German colonial administration remained nevertheless quite well, since the Buren in lacking an efficient German colonial administration large liberties enjoyed and also the colonial force did not have to fear rebellions from native ones by the arranged presence of the Buren in the north of the colony to. So it could not surprise that the Dorslandtrekker after outbreak of the 1. World war on sides of the Germans a federationfederation federation set up and together with the burischen federations overflowed from South Africa against the Englishmen fought.

The relationship to the German settlers worsened only after the assumption of the mandate by South Africa (1920) and the purposeful settlement of Dorslandtrekker on formerly German farms, returning from Angola, (1928). The last still Dorslandtrecker settling in Angola returned only to the outbreak of the civil war to southwest Africa and integrated themselves into the there burischen population part.
