Dr Pepper is a koffeinhaltiges, char-acid refreshment beverage with plant extracts, very popular in the USA. In Germany it is only little common.

History and selling

The history of Dr Pepper resembles at the beginning of from Coca-Cola. The Pharmazeut Charles Alderton invented the beverage in the year 1885, which is thereby one year older as Coca-Cola and thirteen years older than Pepsi. First Dr Pepper was sold in Waco, Texas. On the world exhibition 1904 with USA widths the selling one began. Dr Pepper is still often associated nevertheless also today with Texas, particularly since it can obtain there frequently even higher sales figures than Pepsi.

1986 fused the enterprise Dr Pepper with Seven UP to the Dr Pepper/Seven UP, Inc. Since 1995 this is a daughter of the company Cadbury Schweppes. Head office of the enterprise is Plano, Texas (close Dallas). In the USA Dr Pepper does not have an own network of filling up and selling partners like the larger competitors Coca-Cola and Pepsi, therefore it is driven out frequently by the independent partners of these enterprises as well as by other one, smaller In other countries Cadbury Schweppes has the rights to distribute partly to Coca-Cola and other partners licensed.

In Germany Dr Pepper is driven out since 1997 by the Apollinaris & Schweppes GmbH, which delivers however exclusively the company Lekkerland Tobaccoland at present, so that Dr. Pepper is in this country almost exclusively at gas stations and in stations available. There were not larger Werbekampagnen so far. Therefore Dr Pepper is rather unknown in Germany.

Name

The origin of the name Dr Pepper is disputed. A theory means that calf Morrison, which pharmacists, at whom Charles Alderton worked, found after its removal from Texas to Virginia at a certain Dr. Charles T. Pepper its first employment and in response with the designation of the refreshment beverage after this gentlemen to take itself revenge wanted. Another theory mentioned that the beverage was to be designated after one of his neighbours in Virginia, Dr. Pepper, its daughter Morrison desired.

The original name Dr. Pepper was changed by removing the point after Dr into the 1950er years for optical and contentwise reasons. The point left "„Dr. "“like "„Di: "“and the medical Konnotation looks was continued to weaken.

Product

Despite the same color, which is due to the colouring with Dr Pepper does not rank among the Colas.

It is assumed that the taste from a mixture of popular soda taste directions from the time of origin developed around 1885.
