The Dressler syndrome is a special form of the Perikarditis, thus an inflammation of the heart bag, for the first time 1956 described from William Dressler (1890 - 1969), at that time director of the Maimonides Medical center, Brooklyn. It is caused not by pathogens, but is a reaction of the heart bag mucous membrane to the Gewebsuntergang of the more deeply lying musculature with a cardiac infarct, after injuries of the heart or after heart surgeries.
