The Druckluftflasche (also Pressluftflasche) is a storage vessel for compressed air. Others, special inhaled gas mixtures, are carried forward also in receivers. This hot then Nitrox, oxygen or tri mix bottle, depending upon contents.

While in the industry or in industrial concerns rather compressors are used for the direct compressed air supply, bottles are used, where this is not possible. Like that Druckluftflaschen are a component of respirators for the fire-brigade and oxygen masks for divers.

The Druckluftflasche consists of a receiver of steel, aluminum or (again) of carbon-encased, thinner steel and a stop valve, onto which the breath automatic controller is screwed. These valves are common in different versions:

  • as single valve for a breath automatic controller
  • as double valve with second connection for a reserve breath automatic controller (Oktopus)
  • as bridge valve for the connection of, usually, 2 bottles to a luggage (et).

Depending upon used inhaled gas the bottle must carry a color marking, which indicates the used gas mixture.

The inhaled gas is with a full bottle at a pressure of 200 bar. There are also special compressed air dipping devices, which are filled up to 300 bar. These have however another, longer thread and need also special breath automatic controllers, and are hardly common in the Sporttaucherei.

At the fire-brigade devices become from two 4-Liter-Flaschen (200 bar) or a 6-Liter-Flasche (300 bar) uses. The double bottle devices with two 4-Liter-Flaschen became outdated however in the meantime and from the newer were replaced.

Since the Pressluftflaschen for the fire-brigade are classified technically as receivers, they must be examined in Austria every 10 years. During the filling with a respiratory protection compressor the last test date, which is hit into the bottle wall with number punches, must be examined also in each case. In addition each filling with the bottle number must be logged.
