Above all the drug tourism of Germany into the neighbour state the Netherlands is important in this connection. The Netherlands are the dominating country of origin of the drugs, in particular from Cannabis (81% guaranteed hashish, guaranteed in Germany, 75% marijuana) and from Ecstasy (80%, source: Drug report of the Federal Government 2001). Also different drugs (heroin, LSD among other things) are predominantly introduced over the Netherlands.

There are fears that the abolishment of the mandatory border controls facilitates the drug tourism in accordance with the Schengener agreement. The police authorities co-operate internationally closely; close to the border the discovery rate is to be increased by sample controls of police and tariff in the area and hinterland.
