The East German broadcast Brandenburg (ORB) was of its establishment on 12 October 1991 by 30 April 2003 an institute of the public right (national broadcasting corporation) for the Land of the Federal Republic Brandenburg with seat in potsdam. With effect of the 1. May 2003 it fused free Berlin (SFB) with the transmitter to the new broadcast Berlin Brandenburg (RBB). The ORB was member of the pool of broadcasting corporations.

Studios of the ORB

The ORB maintained its Hauptstudio in potsdam. Further ones of Studios were in Cottbus, Frankfurt (or) and Perleberg.

History

For the setting up its own broadcast organization in Brandenburg after the reunification of both German states 1990 a national broadcast management was created. Over the transmitters potsdam, Cottbus and Frankfurt (or) for the Land of the Federal Republic Brandenburg was radiated first the radio broadcasting program antenna Brandenburg.

On 12 October 1991 the ORB was created as institute of the public right and taken up on 27 November 1991 to the pool of broadcasting corporations. When the German television radio and the former broadcast of the GDR stopped the transmit mode on 31 December 1991, the ORB took up the transmit mode on 1 January 1992. Originally the ORB should arise following the past institutes for pool of broadcasting corporations NDR and WDR only under the title "“East German broadcast (ODR)"”. This idea was however rejected in the autumn 1991, since beside the ORB also the MDR for the transmission area of the former German television radio became responsible.

The transmitter on the DEFA area in Potsdam-Babelsberg had its seat. There a time was again established long the television program in barracks of the DEFA produced to a modern television center. The radio broadcasting program antenna Brandenburg of the former GDR broadcast was taken over and continued using. This was produced first like had in the building of the former Bezirksstudio potsdam of the GDR broadcast in the Puschkinallee. The two other programs radio Brandenburg and skirt radio B were manufactured in the citizen of Berlin radio house Nalepastrasse of the GDR broadcast. Later further buildings in Babelsberg were reconditioned and prepared as well as built a new radio house, in order to create capacities for all programs.

From the establishment to the fusion with the SFB 2003 Professor Dr. rose farmer dressed the office of the director.

The programs of the ORB

Sound broadcasting

With the transmission beginning of the ORB on 1 January 1992 the ORB had three radio broadcasting programs. Antenna Brandenburg was already started in May 1990 by the broadcast of the GDR. This was continued using now as transmitter with regional information and a popular music mixture. The second radio broadcasting program radio Brandenburg was conceived as culture and information program for Brandenburg. A third radio broadcasting program skirt radio B was the youth program. It would send zweitweise on the frequencies of the former GDR youth radio DT64, which was not switched off.

On 22 February 1992 a first radio broadcasting program started in co-operation with the SFB with radio BZWEI. The program was an information and a service wave for Berlin and Brandenburg and addressed itself to 25 - to Hrer.Eine further co-operation between ORB and SFB with the youth radio Fritz on the way one brought, which replaced the ORB Jugendradio skirt radio B. Kind of sending of this transmitter was the 1. March 1993.

After short Probebetrieb started on 28 August 1995 a further co-operation wave between ORB and SFB, the info radio, a digital realigning and information channel, which would send around the clock.

The further development of radio co-operation between ORB and SFB led on 26 August 1997 for adjustment from radio Brandenburg (ORB) and radio BZWEI (ORB/SFB). As follow-up transmitter for both programs radio unity, a day LG1 sliding program for listeners went starting from 25 years, on transmission.

In the culture range the ORB beside the SFB also a co-operation with north Germans the broadcast (NDR) was received. From 3 October 1997 by 31 December 2002 radio 3 was the common classical period and culture wave of ORB and NDR (until 2000 was also the SFB involved).

At the same time with radio 3 on 3 October 1997 radio culture under the leadership of the SFB started as the further co-operation wave between ORB and SFB. This program offered classical music, new music, jazz and world music beside a broad political reporting.

Up to the time of the fusion with the SFB at the 1. May 2003 radiated the ORB thus alone or in co-operation with other radio and TV organizations the following programs:

  • Antenna Brandenburg - national program with regional information from Studios in potsdam, Cottbus, Frankfurt (or) and Perleberg
  • Radio unity - Day LG1 sliding program for listeners starting from 25 years in co-operation with the SFB
  • Fritz - youth radio in co-operation with the SFB
  • info radio - realigning and information wave in co-operation with the SFB
  • Radio culture - culture wave in co-operation with the SFB
  • Radio 3 - Classical period and culture wave (until 2000 in co-operation with the SFB and the NDR and afterwards until 31 December 2002 in co-operation with the NDR, then of the ORB alone further led)

Television

The third television program of the ORB started on 1 January 1992. In the initial starting period at the beginning of still of 15 o'clock to approximately 17:15 clock was transferred as well as after 21 o'clock the pool of broadcasting corporations culture television program at that time UNITY PLUS. Also there were few own transmissions in the program from cost reasons still. Unusually for the Brandenburger spectator was for example the circumstance that the newscast around 20:45 clock and a Brandenburg journal at 19 o'clock was radiated. Many East German after the turn at the start time of the main newscast of the German television radio around 19:30 had in particular oriented themselves clock. Generally not least plus high spectator acceptance could not be determined also by co-operation with unity.

It followed already soon at the 1. May 1992 a program reform. The main newscast Brandenburg kept its transmission place current around 19:30 clock, which also today in the television program of the RBB still validity has. Later further transmissions with a regional character were taken in the program, like e.g. the popular Live-Sendung with spectator participation locally.

Up to the time of the fusion with the SFB at the 1. May 2003 radiated the ORB thus alone or in co-operation with other radio and TV organizations the following programs:

  • The first first German television - community program of the pool of broadcasting corporations
  • ORB television - third television program for Brandenburg
  • Phoenix - common event channel of the pool of broadcasting corporations and Second Channel of German Television
