Definition of the term

In the literature there is no uniform definition, since the ecological embarrassment from different perspectives can be noticed.

Kirchgeorg makes a partitioning into subjective and objective embarrassment. By the subjective embarrassment the intensity of the demands is understood about groups of requirements. The objective embarrassment against it measures the number of groups of requirements. Besides also an organization into material suppl. tables (e.g. resources consumption, air pollution) and a socio-economic level (social expectations, legal editions) exists.

Classification

On the one hand is to call here the market-referred embarrassment, which results from demands for environmental protection of customers, the trade or the competitors. Thus the customers e.g. demand pollution free products (ecology Pull). On the other hand the socio-political embarrassment results from environmental laws of the State of (e.g. cycle economic and waste law), environmental protection organizations or media. The environmental legislation, which can result in a ecology Push, has thereby the largest influence.

Indicators

Some factors affect the embarrassment of the enterprise. These are above all the industry affiliation (chemistry enterprise vs. bank) and the business size. In addition, the number and size of groups of requirements play an important role.

Embarrassment situation

If an enterprise is potenziell concerned, then there are only small demands of groups of requirements. The public hardly argues with this topic. A latent embarrassment is present if the topic were already addressed and demands were placed. This embarrassment is not strategic yet meaning, but she should already receive attention within the enterprise. If demands are made valid according to and by many groups of requirements, then an enterprise is up-to-date concerned.
