Economics (out griech. oikonomia, oikos: the house, nomia: the teachings), English Economy, designated the administration of the household in the antique Hellas and Rome. Economics meant accordingly in former times (to in 20. Century) usually agriculture, housekeeping or also thriftiness. An economist was a farmer, a property or a house supervisor.

Today economics rather generally senses is used by economics, economist in the sense of restaurant economics, political economist, operation manager or economist.
