On the Pro-Kopf-Einkommen in US$ Chile the richest country of Latin America is based. With the Pro-Kopf-Einkommen in purchasing power parities Chile lies on place two in Latin America with approximately 11,500 US$ per head. It amounts to thus approximately a third of the German. The economy is very market-focused: Most ranges are liberalisiert and denationalized, the state ratio amount to with 22% clearly less as half of Germany and only few more than those of the USA.

In addition, Chile, the export-strongest country of South America, depends very on exports, which constitute for instance a third GROS DOMESTIC PRODUCT (which corresponds for instance to the German export quota). Are exported above all raw materials, primarily copper, and agricultural products such as wine, wood and fishery products. The country had the largest well-known copper occurrences of the world (approx. 40 per cent) and is the world largest copper exporter, which makes its economics extremely dependent on the copper price. The case of the copper prices around a cent per Pound means for the country income losses of approximately 100 million US Dollar in the year. 2004 overhauled Chile Norway as a world-wide largest salmon exporter.

Chile is member of the APEC (Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation) as well as associated member of the Mercosur.
