Edradour is the smallest Scottish Whisky Destillerie. It was created 1825, the first written mention is 1837. The Brennerei is appropriate for the locality Pitlochry in a small valley, hidden east of surrounding mountains. The name Edradour is derived from "“Edred dobhar"” ("“the river of king Edred"”).

Only 8-12 barrels with 2.000 litres raw whisky per week are manufactured by three employees, that are about 250,000 bottles per year - large Brennereien produce this quantity into one week. However visitors come annually to these Destillerie up to 100.000, so that additionally nearly 20 tourist guides must be employed.

History

The Destillerie was created 1825 by a cooperative one from farmers to the covering of the internal requirement. Those actually establishment and first official mention took place 1837. 1841 were renamed the cooperative one in "“John McGlashan and company"” and production for the market began. 1933, after the assumption by William Whiteley & CO., a subsidiary company of the American group of J.G. Turney & Sons, became Edradour main part of the "“King Ransome"”. Campbell Distillers Ltd., that belonged to the liquor company Pernod Ricard took over the company 1982. The first filling as single paints takes place 1986. On 22 July 2002 the Destillerie is resold at the independent Scottish Signatory.
