Eduard (* 11. March 1850 in Castellamare, Italy; " 25 November 1916 in Zurich) was an engineer and a building contractor. It is considered as an important pioneer of the Eisenbetons.
born and learned machine-builders, he made 1895 acquaintance with the new building material for 1850 in Italy and was immediately fascinated and enthusiastically by its possibilities.
1880 he married Lina Bolte from Hanover. The married couple had three children: Friedrich ("Fritz ", 1882-1930), Margarethe (1884-1956, married and Robert (1888-1928).
In the year 1898 it created its engineer office for Cement Eisenconstructionen in Strasbourg. After first own attempts transfers the general agency for the structural system of the Frenchman Hennebique, an at that time completely new monolithic building method from concrete and iron, the Eisenbeton at that time to Strasbourg. Above all the load-carrying capacity and fire safety help this building method to a fast break-through.
As an engineer developed building with Eisenbeton crucially further, as an entrepreneur he opened always new operational areas for this building material. Thus he builds bold elbow bridges from concrete, can the idea of a widespread hollow body cover be patented, designs Shedkonstruktionen for hall constructions, invents a new building method for pools and rams the first iron concrete piles in Germany.
Already in the first years then the enterprise develops with the building of industrial buildings (Strasbourg, Leipzig), people baths (Strasbourg, Colmar, Markirch), bridges (Switzerland, Elsass, Lorraine, Germany) and pile foundations (Hamburg, Metz, Triest) stormily and successfully. 1899 are already implemented also the first foreign order, a Tuchmanufaktur in close proximity to Riga.
With outbreak of the First World War addresses in Basel, Brussels, Duisburg, Kehl, Milan, Paris, Riga, Stuttgart, Vienna and Zurich exist. In this time is outstanding 1902 the establishment Hamburg main station on 800 iron concrete piles and to today traffic-efficient bridge long-pointed to the railroad line Chur Arosa in Switzerland from the year 1912, with approximately 100 m elbow span at that time the highest and furthest strained bridge from Eisenbeton world-wide.
1916 die Eduard before the rescue of the collapse-endangered tower of the Strassburger is completed, which succeeded by the venture of a Turmpfeilers and the durable reorganization of the rotten column foundation.
