Edward B. Lewis (* 20. May 1918 in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania, "† 21 July 2004), was an US-American Genetiker. It was carrier of the Nobelpreises for physiology or medicine 1995.

Lewis studied biology and genetics at the University OF Minnesota and at the California institutes OF Technology (Caltech). At the Caltech it attained a doctorate 1942. During 2. World war worked Lewis as a Meteoroligist for US army. Back at the California institutes OF Technology Lewis became 1946 Assistant professor for biology, in the following year Associate and finally 1956 Full professor for biology.

Starting from end of the forties 1995 it divided with Christiane Volhard and Eric F. Wieschaus the Nobelpreis for physiology or medicine for its "“fundamental realizations over genetic control of the early embryo development"”.

Edward Lewis was married with Pamela Lewis and had three children: Hugh, an attorney in Bellingham, Washington lives, who already during his lifetimes the deceased Glenn and Keith, a biologist and scientific assistant, which live in Berkeley, California.
