Edward Lawrie Tatum (* 14 December 1909 in Boulder, Colorado; " 5 November 1975 in New York town center) was an US-American Genetiker.
It visited the college at the University OF Chicago and continued to study then at the University OF Wisconsin, where it 1934 its pH. D. in biochemistry received. Starting from 1937 it researched to the Stanford University and co-operated here with George Wells Beadle, starting from 1945 to the Yale University with Joshua leather mountain. 1948 it returned to Stanford, in order to work starting from 1957 to the Rockefeller University.
Since 1941 could set up Tatum as well as Beadle with the help of the mold fungus Neurospora crassa in gene in enzyme hypothesis. Together with Joshua leather mountain it proved the event of the conjugation to 1946.
it received the Nobelpreis for physiology or medicine to 1958 together with Beadle "for their discovery that the genes become effective, by adjusting certain chemical procedures". The other half of the Nobelpreises went at Joshua leather mountain.
