Together with its younger brothers Carl and Johannes took over Edwin Bechstein in the year 1900 after the death of the father Carl Bechstein its Pianoforte factory. Edwin led the instrument making, while Carl led the business. Johannes died already 1906.

After a controversy with its brother Edwin Bechstein let 1916 its portion disburse at the enterprise and separated themselves from the society. When the factory was converted 1923 into a corporation, Edwin Bechstein and his Mrs. Helene, who had been noticeable by anti-Semitic expressions, bought themselves however again into the enterprise.

Support of Hitler

Adolf Hitler bought after its dismissal from the fortress detention in the year 1924 Mercedes a compressor. It paid this vehicle from a credit, for which Edwin Bechstein did not only vouch, but which it also paid back.
