The electrical industry is the branch of industry of electro-technology and is roughly divided into the two ranges building of electrical appliances and into current supply. Individual specialist areas of the electrical industry are e.g. equipment construction, automation, batteries, Consumer Electronics, electric vehicles, energy engineering, cable, heavy current condensers, transformers and military technology.

The electrical industry is after the machine and equipment construction the second largest industrial industry and one of the largest export industries in Germany. The employment figure of the German electrical industry amounted to 2004 810,000 coworkers and the conversion 160 billion euro.

The central association electro-technology and electronic industry registered association represents the interests of the German electrical industry. The employers (enterprises) are united in the employers' association total metal, which organize persons employed in the trade unions industrial union metal and industrial union mining industry, chemistry, energy.
