UN/EDIFACT the abbreviation for United is nation electronics DATA interCHANGE For administration, Commerce and transport. EDIFACT is a industry-spreading international standard for the format of electronic data in the course of business. EDIFACT is one of several international EDI standards. For the EDIFACT standard a UN-mechanism is responsible named CEFACT, which the UNECE is attached.

EDIFACT Subsets

EDIFACT listings

One calls the different EDIFACT versions listings.

These EDIFACT listings are regularly revised, in order to take up new EDIFACT messages or update existing. EDIFACT listings have names such as D.03B, from which the year (in the example 2003) and the version can be read off within this yearly (in the example B, thus the second version in the year 2003).

EDIFACT message

There are about 200 different EDIFACT messages for the most diverse application purposes in the course of business. Each message has a Kurznamen, consisting of 6 capital letters. Some examples:

  • DELFOR - Delivery call (delivery forecast)
  • DELJIT - Fine call (delivery Just in Time)
  • The AUTOMATIC DATA PROCESSINg - Delivery note (despatch advice message)
  • IFTMIN - Transport/order for forwarding business (Instructions OF transport)
  • INVOIC - Calculation (invoice message)
  • MSCONS - Count values (Metered services CONsumption report message)
  • ORDERS - Order (purchase order message)
  • PAYORD - Order to pay (order message payment)
  • PRICAT - Price list/catalog (price catalogue message)
  • PRODAT - Product data (product DATA message)
  • INVRPT - Stock report (inventory report)
  • RECADV - Incoming goods report (advice receipt)
  • UTILMD - Master data to customers, contracts and points of counting (utilities master DATA message)

Each message consists of an envelope, which one can introduce oneself as a letter cover. In this envelope are located code numbers for senders and receivers, as well as meaning, times for backtracing, agreed upon in each case, as well as test elements. A message consists of segments and groups of data elements and data elements.

Data communication

EDIFACT is a standard for the data format, not for the transmission of the data, i.e. in principle EDIFACT messages can be exchanged over each medium (S. publication form), which can be used for the transmission of electronic data. Also EDIFACT is independent of the used transmission protocol.
