The elevated service (gD) is a career in German bureaucracy. It is divided into the elevated technical service (e.g. Fire-brigade) or the elevated non-technical service (e.g. general administration and police). The appropriate career was called from 1927 to 1939 elevated middle service.

Basic condition for the entrance into the elevated service is the general university-level graduation/specialized university-level graduation. The training in the context of a study at a professional school for public administrativewith the conclusion is effected usually lent usually an academic degree, for example to "“diploma administrative landlord (FH)"” in different fields, "“diploma financial landlord (FH)"” in different fields "“diploma right male nurse (FH)"”, in Baden-Wuerttemberg also district notary"” (at the notary academy Baden-Wuerttemberg).

Also courses of studies of the administrative management economics as well as zum/r diploma Betriebswirt/in and/or diploma buyer/woman (FH) - are possible for field administrative management with one average period of study of eight terms at a professional school.

It is planned to align the courses of studies again after the Bologna system to the conclusions Bachelor and masters. The past diploma course of studies would lead then to the conclusion as "“Bachelor OF Public administration"”.

For the entrance into the elevated technical service an final specialized higher education is usually presupposed as an engeneering graduate (FH). The entrance paying is in this case the salary bracket A 10 (upper supervisor).

The salary brackets A 9 assigned to the elevated service to A 13 are federal pay regulation. Women lead the office designation in the female form, if this is possible.

• A 9 supervisor, e.g. Government supervisor (RI), police /Kriminalkommissar (PK, KK)
• A 10 upper supervisor, e.g. government upper supervisor (ROI), police /Kriminaloberkommissar (POK, KOK)
• A 11 office for office man, e.g. government office man (RA/RAfr), police /Kriminalhauptkommissar (PHK, KHK)
• A 12 office advice, e.g. government office advice (RSR) m police /Kriminalhauptkommissar (PHK, KHK), teacher at reason and hauptschule, material school teacher in North Rhine-Westphalia
• A 13 upper office advice, e.g. government upper office advice (ROAR), first police /Kriminalhauptkommissar (EPHK, EKHK), material school teachers (assigned in North Rhine-Westphalia of the salary bracket A 12)

The female designations with the additive "“'in"” supplemented, thus for ROI'in, KHK'in etc. sometimes also ROIin, KHKin, thus without Apostroph.Die exception form the designations office for office man. For a while instead of government office woman also the designation in some Lands of the Federal Republic was used. This designation disappeared however to a large extent, e.g. can in the federal customs administration the designation (alternatively to "“customs office woman"”) is still selected.

Designation during the period of instruction (training): Candidate, either with an additive, which corresponds to the office, is reached that after the training (e.g. police commissioner candidate) or with an additive according to the field, which was taken (e.g. in the elevated tariff and tax service: Financial candidate, middle customs service: Tariff candidate, middle tax service: Tax candidate, rule with the federation)

The fields extend from the specialist level to the line of subjects in the federation as well as in the countries and municipalities.
