The Elsterwerdaer bicycle factory (ELFA) was an enterprise resident in the brandenburgischen Elsterwerda, which had specialized in the production of two-wheelers. The product range covered bicycles with and without auxiliary engine, as well as motorcycles. The engines used thereby originated however not from own production, but from foreign manufacturers were taken over (DKW 200er or kitchens - engines).
The Elsterwerdaer bicycle factory was created in the year 1894. While the time of the national socialism a conversion of production to armaments took place and the work toward end of the war was destroyed. Already 1945 began the reconstruction and at 1953 specialized the enterprise in the production from plants to the dairy-farming. A milestone in this time was the development world-wide first of the Melkkarussels and its Inbetriebname 1969. Starting from 1970 the products were sold by ELFA under the name IMPULSA.
Successor of ELFA is the 1990 by the trust establishment created IMPULSA AG.
