The emergency admission (also rescue place, emergency admission or emergency outpatient clinic) is an approach place in the hospital for acute supply and is part of the emergency medicine. Each hospital (exception: Private hospitals, rehabilitation hospitals) has an emergency admission, which is around the clock opened and is carried out in the medical assistance. In the eastern Lands of the Federal Republic of Germany the term rescue place is further common instead of "“emergency admission"”, and in the west as well as in Austria the term emergency admission (also emergency outpatient clinic or emergency admission) is used more frequently. Sometimes also the health centers of the hospitals function outside of the office hours as emergency photographs.

In an emergency admission only emergencies are treated. It takes place there neither a usual ambulatory support, nor ill postings are issued. The patients are treated not necessarily in the order of their arrival to separate according to urgency. The correct estimate and classification (so-called Triage) of the patients is therefore a very important measure in the emergency admission. In addition the vital parameters become from each patient (e.g.: Blood pressure, pulse, respiration rate) and often also additional values like the oxygen saturation or the heart frequency measured and/or already available measuring data and data of the rescue personnel considers.

Some emergency photographs order additionally over own station, in which longer lasting treatments are accomplished and patients, with whom a stationary admission is medically necessary, wait for a free bed.

In each case it must be decided after stabilization of a patient by the physicians of the emergency admission, whether it is necessary, to keep a patient in the hospital stationarily or to dismiss it from the emergency admission. If necessary also still the possibility exists temporarily of accommodating the patient in a daily hospital for further observation (for instance with some cases of Unterzuckerung). If a patient will dismiss, the hospital personnel often requests a patient carriage, in order to let these bring surely home.

Beside the interdisciplinary emergency photographs, in which all medical fields are treated, there are also specializedspecific emergency photographs, the only accident-surgical (ex.: Fracture) or internal (ex.: Cardiac infarct) of emergencies receive. Therefore the decision should be left to the rescue personnel over the choice of a suitable hospital.

Among the special emergency photographs nowadays also trauma centers rank. They are personnel and of the equipment (shock area) on Schwerstverletzte furnished. The chances of survival and treatment success are to be regarded in a specialized trauma center in relation to usual surgical emergency photographs as significantly higher.

With the Stroke units there is a further relevant mechanism, which is aligned by impact accumulation patients to the treatment in many emergency photographs.
