Emil Theodor digester (* 25. August 1841 in Berne, "† 27. July 1917 in Berne) be a Swiss surgeon. It received the Nobelpreis for medicine as an only surgeon 1909.

Life

Emil Theodor digester began its scientific work with a set of articles over in twisting of Arterien. When it began its surgical career, a straight change between the traditional September tables took place to the new antiseptic working methods, which digester made its major task. It developed a set of Wundbehandlungsmethoden with light chlorine solutions and further methods. Later it developed the first aseptischen Wundversorgungen. By its work as teachers for army surgeons digesters in addition view of the treatment of firing wounds got and made this a further emphasis of its work. Also over fractures and the Osteomyelitis digester worked.

Beside the Wund and break treatment the surgery of the internal organs a substantial part of its work, for instance the operation represented with stomach and intestine illnesses. Later goals of its work were the brain (particularly the epilepsy), which male sex organs and finally also the thyroid, to whose physiology and pathology he discussed completely new, controversially hypotheses and results explained. This last emphasis brought in the Nobelpreis for medicine for it.

Personal record

1841 are born digesters on 25 August 1841 as a son of an engineer in Berne in Switzerland.
1865 it terminates its medicine study with its doctor work on the surgical university clinic of Berne (island hospital)
1872 he gets the post as a professor for surgery, likewise at the surgical university clinic in Berne. Here it remains for the remainder of its medical career, despite various offers of other universities.
1909 receive Emil Theodor digester to the Nobelpreis for medicine "“for its work over the physiology, pathology and surgery of the thyroid."”
1917 die digesters in its hometown Berne on 27 July. It is appropriate buried on that Bernese for Bremgartenfriedhof.

Emil Theodor digester married 1851 Marie Witschi. They had three sons, from those the oldest, Albert, when Assistenzprofessor for surgery supported its father with its work.
