History

Establishment

The Dresdener buyer Heinrich Ernemann 1889 took part in the Kameratischlerei of William Franz Matthias in the Pirnaer road. The name of the common enterprise read "„Dresdener photographic apparatus factory Ernemann & Matthias "“. After Matthias separated 1891 from the company, Ernemann shifted the enterprise 1892 of the goods station route 10 into the Kaulbachstrasse.

Production of cameras

The following years were coined/shaped of an expansion of the enterprise and frequent change of the operating rooms. The enterprise produced several camera types at this time already, for which also patents announces became. 1898 drew the enterprise into a building of fresh from the factory in the Schandauer road and 1899 the enterprise into "„the Heinrich Ernemann, corporation for Camerafabrikation into Dresden "“were converted. Production of film projectors

With entrance of his son Carl Heinrich Alexander (1878-1957) into the camera factory the production of film projectors becomes a further emphasis. 1908 manufactured the Ernemann AG the first own objectives, which were referred before by the optical institute Goertz and Carl Zeiss. In the year after the company with the 35-mm-Projektor "“Imperator"” manufactured the probably most successful film projector before the First World War. 1917 took place the Umfirmierung into "„Ernemann works AG in Dresden "“. The registered trade mark, which became light goddess, used so far, replaced by a three-part Geneva disk on the three Krupp rings. All other Ernemann products used now three-part Geneva disk in the ring. 1923 were referred the building of factories existing this very day in the Schandauer road, whose tower silhouette delivered the Logo VEB of the Pentacon later. The building accommodates today "„the technical collections of the city Dresden "“.

Ermanox

One of the most important achievements of the work in the area of the building of photographic apparatuses is 1924 the manufacturing of the camera Ermanox with at that time fastest in series manufactured lens of the world, the Ernostar with a luminous intensity of 1:2. This camera did not make a working under before technically conditions which can be mastered for the photographers possible, e.g. at night or during theatre performances. In the year after the luminous intensity of the Ernostar objective could be improved still further on 1:1,8.

Zeiss Ikon AG

1926 fused "„the Ernemann works AG "“with the optical institute Goerz, the ICA AG and the Contessa Nettel AG to the Zeiss Ikon AG. With it the history of the exempt private company ends after 37 years. Heinrich Ernemann belonged now to the supervisory board of the again created enterprise. Since it acted with Ernemann however around an imported name with very good reputation, some Ernemann marks were taken over, by the Zeiss Ikon and still several years were resumed. Completely particularly applied to the cinema range. The optical institute Goerz and Ernemann had to commit themselves to manufacture no more objectives separate these from Carl Zeiss in Jena to refer. 1947 were expropriated the Dresdener work on instruction of Soviet crew power and transferred later into a state-owned enterprise.
