Ernst van Aaken (* 16. May 1910 in Emmerich on the Rhine; "† 2 April 1984 in Schwalmtal Waldniel) was a German sport physician and coach.

The Waldnieler physician entered as "„run doctor "“and an inventor "„of the Waldnieler permanent run training "“run history. As sport physician, coach and active he exerted himself with Vehemenz for the long-distance run and the training "„of the pure perseverance "“with high kilometer extent. Daily permanent run for everyone, for women, old persons and children was his foreign exchange, eating and drinking moderate in addition. It fought interval training prevailing to center of the 1960er years. Likewise it promoted the Langlauf for children, forbidden at that time, instead of the anaerobic medium range runs.

It justified further the community of interests of older long-distance runners and the German federation of long-current physicians. When chairmen and coaches of him of the small niederrheinischen sport association OSC Waldniel created he achieved 1953 with his active ones altogether 15 German Meistertitel and advised beyond that runner of the top class, above all Harald Norpoth, which became 1964 in Tokyo Olympia second over 5000 m.

On 16 September 1967 it organized a marathon race in Waldniel, in which it let secretly two women start. One of them, Anni Pede Erdkamp, became third of the run and set up thereby a world best performance.

1972 was driven off van Aaken with abendlichen run training when crossing the road by a car both legs, and it was since then dependent on a wheelchair. It nevertheless wrote afterwards a number of books, the most well-known is programmed "„for 100 Lebensjahre "“, held countless lectures, also in the USA and Japan, and organized above all woman runs over the Marathonstrecke and 100 miles in its place of residence Waldniel (after the regional reorganization Schwalmtal), where he was appointed also the honour citizen.

1976 were honoured Ernst van Aaken with the Order of Merit. Its country doctor practice had opened van Aaken despite its handicap up to its death on 2 April 1984 at the age of 73 years. It advised active runners and in particular cardiac infarct and cancer patients in the aftercare by therapeutic running.
