Ernst von Borsig originates from an industrial magnate family. In the year 1904 he transferred the line of the company August Borsig, which manufactured mainly locomotives. it belonged to 1910 with a fortune from 22 million Marks to the 60 richest men in Prussia.

It was considerably involved in the education of the central working group of the industriellen and commercial employer and employee. After the First World War it supported financially the free corps (e.g. the brigade Ehrhardt) and became starting from 1922 one of the most important backers of the NSDAP.
