Under the term error management the human activities are summarized, with which humans in a man-machine system react to an error, in order to finally repair the error or to limit first its effects.

Organization

Usually error management is divided in three or four phases, those is at least the phases error discovery, fault-tracing and error correction. Before the error correction, if a complete correction is not immediately possible, the enterprise will be received however upright must, possibly first the phase error compensation inserted.

The error discovery is not an event, but a phase, since in systems with large time constants and slowly changing values the deviation from the normal condition cannot immediately recognize each other clearly as errors.

During the fault-tracing one tries, with the help of the man-machine interface the erfahrbaren (visible, audible, perceptible,"…) To determine information the error.

The effects of the error are reduced by the error compensation in such a way that a safe enterprise is possible, if the error can be repaired not immediately.

With the error correction the error is repaired.

Meaning

The ability belonged to the error management to the Non Technical Skills and is a substantial reason to leave humans with high responsibility in the technical system. Good error management can decide whether a human error or a technical defect leads to the disaster or not.

In addition the opportunity must be given to humans to the error management: The technical components of the man-machine system must be so arranged that the error management in all phases is made possible and supported.
