Etix is a registered mark of German Lufthansa AG and stands as short form for "“electronic ticket"”. Electronic tickets are accepted at the airport by special automats or at the check in switch.

The traveler booked his flight as used in the travel agency, call center or over Internet. As identification proof many flier maps of an airline, credit cards or an official photo document of identification can be used. The map/document of identification number is assigned to the reservation. Contrary to paper tickets at the time of the reservation only the payment and reservation are completed. The exhibition of on-board map takes place only before the takeoff at the check in automat or at the check in switch in the airport. A paper ticket is not no more provided.

At some airports check in automats with automatic luggage conveyors make the automatic Einchecken possible with luggage.

Further innovative services in connection with check during process are Internet and WAP check in.

Advantages are in particular:

  • The electronic ticket cannot be lost or forget to no more
  • Process, personal, material and setting cost saving on sides of the airline and/or the ticket salesman (e.g. travel agency)
  • When short term reservations the ticket no more does not have to be deposited like in former times against fees at the airport
  • Faster Einchecken without queues
  • Transfer postings can be transacted directly with the original ticket salesman (e.g. travel agency) without collecting main of a ticket. The account of a possibly resulting transfer posting fee is made likewise by the original ticket salesman.
  • Electronic tickets are incentiviert by airlines usually, speak spent, in order to offer an incentive to the change of paper tickets on the new ticket form (cost saving on sides of the airline).
