The American Clark was screw manufacturer and created 1903 its enterprise as automobile supplier. 1917 it is to have manufactured the first fork-lift truck, in order to carry material between individual divisions of its enterprise. Visitors of the work were inspired of it and asked Carl to manufacture for it identical devices. Thus 1918 eight fork-lift trucks were produced and in the following year already over 75 pieces.

According to another opinion which it however not Clark, but the company Yale inventor of the first electrical fork-lift truck, which was successfully used 1925 for lifting loads.

Only after the Second World War the world-wide break-through succeeded to the fork-lift truck. 1946 began the standard production of fork-lift trucks for the first time in Great Britain.
