The economic expansion means upswing within the economic range (e.g. in England in 17. Jh.). This upswing is usually a consequence of social changes.

The expansion is characterized by an increasing overall economic production and rising utilization of capacity with a still relatively small price rise. The occupation constantly increases, which favours in principle the creation of new jobs. The basic tendency in the economy is optimistic therefore. In the process of the upswing it comes to wage and increases in revenue of the households and to profit increases of the enterprises, which cause i.d.R. further investments.
