Extrasystoles are designated heart impacts, which arise prematurely in the comparison to the normal heart rhythm. The following heart impact steps either in the used rhythm on (interponierte extrasystole) or retards exactly around the time, around which the extrasystole occurs too early (post office-specially-systolic break). Extrasystoles are usually insignificantly and harmlessly, occasionally can them in addition, to an important heart illness refer. The concerning often feels extrasystoles as Herzstolpern, what by laymen occasionally is considered dangerous.

Depending upon the place of the emergence in the heart (see anatomy of the heart) one differentiates extrasystoles (VES, emergence in one of the Herzkammern) and extrasystoles (sports association, emergence usually in one of the atria).

With a VES the excitation of the ektopen pacesetter spreads over the heart. In the ELECTROCARDIOGRAM promptly more incidentally excitation comes P-wave before and replaces these) a distorted and common QRS complex (see electrocardiogram nomenclature) is visible.

Sports association develop above the Bifurkation of his bundle, mostly in the forecourt. In the ELECTROCARDIOGRAM one finds a slim QRS complex and frequently a distorted P-wave (see electrocardiogram nomenclature).

Several extrasystoles from an excitation center (monotop) appear homogeneous in the ELECTROCARDIOGRAM (monomorph). Polytope extrasystoles develop however in different excitation centers and differ therefore also in the ELECTROCARDIOGRAM (polymorph).

Extrasystoles arising in pairs are designated than Couplets, three or more directly sequential extrasystoles than salvos. If a VES follows after each normal excitation of the heart, one speaks of the Bigeminus.

Medically extrasystoles should be examined with the frequent occurrence (more than 10 minute) and treated if necessary.
