The term energy industry describes all mechanisms and actions of humans and institutions with the goal of guaranteeing the supply of households and enterprises with energy as for instance river (electricity) and gas (natural gas).

The energy industry covers thereby topics among other things such as power production, energy storage, energy transfer, selling and account of energy, as well as supply security.

Generally

Of energy industry strictly speaking one can speak since the late phase of the industriellen revolution. With the arising of the use of electricity and gas a locally centralistic supplying structure became necessary. Thus rapidly the natural monopolies typical for the advancement of the energy industry developed. This made national regulations necessary, whereby the energy industry (ith e. S.) as object of national control and adjustment was constituted.
