The enterprise location is the place, at which an enterprise is. Against one frequently in the economical literature represented view the enterprise location is determined rarely during establishment of an enterprise from rational considerations: New enterprises develop usually, where that or the founders are resident. In the majority of all cases economical considerations come only then into the play if an enterprise grew and new locations searches. Location planning occurs thus if an enterprise achieved an expansive phase.

General information

The choice of a location depends on different measured variables; for this counts in particular the relative proximity of a market for the products or services, which the enterprise manufactures or offers. To the choice of location "“in the small one"” (for instance the road, in which a hairdresser business is created) applies this would already influence-pour with the establishment. The presence of raw materials and auxiliary materials plays nowadays a role rather subordinated, the availability of workers (job market), labor costs, the binding to traffic routes (altogether infrastructure) and fiscal considerations (tax policy) are more decisive. In what respect an enterprise oriented at mentioned above sizes depends itself on the mode of operation (industry) and on the sector of the economy. The choice of location ranks thus, apart from the line of business choice, among the first business decisions.

Under the globalization the spatial proximity between enterprise location (center), the manufacturing location and a selling office loses on meaning meaning faster transportation facilities and sinking costs is distances relatively. There is a maximum distance nevertheless in dependence of the necessary goods or services, starting from which the transportation and/or travel expenses exceeds the saving. Only if this maximum distance exceeds the earth extent, an enterprise possesses actually absolute liberty with the choice of location.
